Let’s be honest – the classic “dress hanging in the window” shot is tired. Sure, it’s become a tradition in wedding photography, but traditions can get stale. To me, photographing a wedding dress while it’s just hanging there misses the point. A dress isn’t meant to sit still—it’s meant to move, to flow, to breathe life. Capturing the dress in action—whether it’s swirling during a first look, catching the wind by the shore, or swaying as the bride walks down the aisle—brings out its true beauty. Those are the moments where the dress tells a story.

Details can still shine in creative, artistic ways—zooming in on lace, buttons, or embellishments as they interact with the world around them. These shots bring the dress to life in a way that a stiff, lifeless hanging shot simply can’t. After all, the wedding day is about movement and emotion, not stillness. Let’s photograph it that way.
